Technical data
The Achilles Robot System is a high-mobility, all-electric magnetic robot designed for underwater operations, optimized for tasks requiring extended maneuverability and light tooling loads. Originally developed as part of the RoboCoat system, it has evolved into a versatile tool carrier for inspection, cleaning, and repair applications.
With four-wheel drive and independent steering, Achilles adapts to complex geometries and ensures even force distribution across surfaces. Its adaptive magnetic suspension maintains constant holding force, allowing it to cross-angles and transition between different surfaces without excessive torsional friction.
Operational Capabilities
Achilles is designed for surface-sensitive operations, ensuring minimal impact while maintaining a strong magnetic grip. The system is remotely controlled via fiber telemetry and supports various tools, including a cofferdam plate system for sealing and repair.
It has been successfully deployed in offshore environments for:
- Structural inspections
- Hull cleaning and grinding
- Crack plugging and repair
- Hull and tank surface preparation for coating applications
With its compact footprint, high mobility, and self-aligning magnetic system, Achilles provides an efficient and reliable solution for offshore and subsea maintenance tasks.
