Minute for safety

Hang up barrier chain and dedicated signs

Remotion, in coordination with the client will have the final say on deploying the craft. Considering both local weather conditions at the location and the weather table in this procedure. The maximum significant wave height during habitat operations may fluctuate depending on the craft’s operational depth.

Check the LARS system; ensure it is secured, and perform a deck test of the LARS

Conduct a communication test with everyone involved in the operation including the client

Inform the client when deploying the craft and confirm that the operation is notified if there are any plans to change the heading of the ship.

Ensure that there`s sufficient Umbilical cable and Hoses available on deck for the operation

Prepare the Snatch Block

Mount a snatch block above the LARS, positioned further inwards than the driving platforms (when fully deployed).

The snatch block will bear the robot's weight until it magnetically attaches to the hull.

Attach Safety Wire

Secure the safety wire to the lifting points at the rear of Achilles.

Position Achilles on the Ramps

Drive Achilles onto the tilting ramps, positioning it as far up as possible without risking overtravel.

As the robot approaches the snatch block, gradually remove slack from the safety wire, ensuring it does not lift the rear of the robot.

Tilt the Platform

Start the HPU and extend the cylinders gradually to tilt the platform.

Maintain tension on the safety wire, as it will support the robot’s full weight until Achilles detaches from the ramps and secures itself to the hull with magnets.

Deploy the Drive-Off Platform

Fully extend the ramp until the drive-off platform makes contact with the ship hull.

Drive Achilles onto the Hull

Slowly drive Achilles off the ramps, paying out the safety wire at the same rate.

Continue until the robot has completely departed from LARS and is securely fastened to the hull by magnets.

Adjust Rigging as Required

Reconfigure the rigging according to the project plan or work description. This may involve replacing the existing safety wire with one from a different location.

Note: Achilles must always have at least one safety wire attached at all times.

Secure Hoses and Cables

Before maneuvering Achilles, properly hang off and secure hoses and cables.

Move to the Work Location

Maneuver Achilles vertically to the designated work area. The exact location will be specified in the work description based on the operation.

Prepare for Retrieval

Once the operation is complete, follow the recovery method specified in the work description.

Determine the Retrieval Method, Achilles can be recovered using either:

  • Standard Return – Continue to step 21.
  • EQD System – Proceed to step 26.

Return to the Launch Location

Deploy the LARS to its launch position for Achilles retrieval.

Reset Rigging (If Modified)

If the rigging has been changed, reroute the securing wire through the snatch block positioned directly above the LARS.

Drive Achilles onto the Platform

Slowly drive the robot onto the platform. Keep the securing wire tensioned, as the robot will lose its magnetic grip on the hull.

Tilt the LARS Back to Horizontal

When all four wheels are on the platform, stop the robot. Start tilting the LARS back to its horizontal position, keeping the securing wire tensioned.

Drive Achilles to the Stationary Platform

Once the platform is fully retracted, drive Achilles onto the stationary part of the platform. Proceed to step 29 to complete post-recovery tasks.

Prepare EQD System (If applicable)

If EQD recovery is specified in the work plan, ensure the rigging is correctly configured and the landing area is clear.

Drive to EQD Activation Site

Move Achilles to the designated EQD activation site and activate the EQD system as instructed in the work description.

Lift Achilles to the Landing Area

Once Achilles is detached from the hull, lift it to the designated landing area per the project plan.

Secure the robot and shut down systems

Inform Client that operation is ended and robot is retrieved

Take down barriers and designated signs

Sign and deliver work permit

If any abnormal events occur during the operation that are relevant to the field report, communicate this to the Remotion Supervisor and follow the facility's internal procedures.
