Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Bring your personal protective equipment (PPE):
General PPE to be used by everybody
- Safety glasses/Face Shields
- Must comply with EN 166 (Eye Protection).
- Should protect against mechanical impact, chemical splashes, or UV radiation.
- Anti-scratch and anti-fog properties are often specified.
- Face shields (EN 170/171) are used for protection against arcs or chemicals.
- Helmet
- Must comply with EN 397 (Industrial Safety Helmets).
- Should be impact- and penetration-resistant.
- Must withstand extreme temperatures and UV exposure (relevant for offshore environments).
- May include integrated attachments for face shields or hearing protection.
- Hearing protection
- Must comply with EN 352 (Hearing Protection).
- Should provide appropriate noise reduction (SNR) based on the noise levels in the area.
- Can include earmuffs or helmet-integrated solutions.
- Safety boots
- Half-height safety boots are mandatory offshore
- Must comply with EN ISO 20345 (Safety Footwear).
- Equipped with a toe cap capable of withstanding a minimum impact of 200 Joules.
- Slip-resistant soles to prevent falls on wet or oily surfaces.
- Puncture-resistant midsoles and chemical-resistant materials are often required.
- Must include heat resistance and anti-static properties.
- Gloves
- Must comply with EN 388 (Mechanical Protection) for resistance to cuts, abrasion, tearing, and punctures.
- Chemical-resistant gloves must comply with EN 374 (Protection Against Chemicals and Microorganisms).
- Heat-resistant gloves should comply with EN 407 (Thermal Risks).
- Workwear/warm clothing to wear under the coveralls
Specialist PPE (provided on location)
- Life Jacket
- Must comply with EN ISO 12402 series (Buoyancy Aids).
- Minimum buoyancy of 275 Newtons (offshore requirement for adults).
- Must include a light, whistle, and optionally, an emergency beacon.
- Flame-Resistant Workwear
- Must comply with EN ISO 11612 (Protection Against Heat and Flame).
- Anti-static clothing should comply with EN 1149-5.
- Must be oil- and chemical-resistant in accordance with EN 13034.
- Clearly labeled with usage temperature and maintenance instructions.
- Respiratory Protection
- Half- and full-face masks must comply with EN 140 or EN 136.
- Filters for gas and particulates must comply with EN 14387 and EN 143.
- Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) must comply with EN 137.
- The equipment must be suited to the environment, e.g., for H₂S or oxygen-deficient areas.
- Survival Suit
- Must comply with SOLAS standards for thermal protection.
- Should be donable within 2 minutes.
- Must include high-visibility reflective details and an integrated life jacket.
- Harnesses and Fall Protection Equipment
- Harnesses must comply with EN 361 (Fall Arrest Harnesses).
- Lanyards must comply with EN 354 and energy absorbers with EN 355.
- Fall arrest blocks must comply with EN 360.
- Equipment must be tested and inspected regularly (at least annually).
- Gas Detector
- Must comply with ATEX certification for explosive environments.
- Capable of detecting H₂S, CO, O₂, and flammable gases (LEL).
- Requires regular calibration and pre-use testing.
Tips: Inlcude a speedo and sunscreen.
