Occupational Health Certificate (ASO)

The Atestado de Saúde Ocupacional (ASO) is a medical document certifying a worker's fitness or unfitness to perform their job duties. It is mandated by Brazil's Regulatory Standard No. 7 (NR-7) under the Occupational Health Medical Control Program (PCMSO). The primary goal of the ASO is to ensure workers are physically and mentally capable of safely performing their tasks, maintaining workplace safety and health.

ASO Content:

  • Worker and employer identification.
  • Job description and associated risks.
  • Results of clinical and supplementary tests.
  • Conclusion on the worker’s fitness or unfitness.
  • Medical professional's name, signature, and registration number.

Validity and Frequency - The frequency of periodic exams depends on:

  • Risk Level: Jobs with lower risk (1-2) may require exams every two years for workers aged 18-45. High-risk jobs (3-4) or workers outside this age range usually require annual exams.
  • Specific conditions may adjust the frequency based on the occupational physician’s recommendations.

The ASO is critical for:

  • Preventing occupational illnesses and workplace accidents.
  • Ensuring legal compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Promoting health in the workplace and reducing legal liabilities.

It's essential for employers to ensure that the medical professional conducting the ASO is registered with the Regional Medical Council (CRM) and that the examination complies with the guidelines established by the Ministry of Labor's Regulatory Standard No. 7 (NR-7).

For employees, it's advisable to consult with your employer's human resources or occupational health department to determine the designated location for your ASO examination.
